This page will highlight the activities and lessons that I am doing with the K-8 students at Olney-Bissell School. It will also highlight some of the other fun things that are happening at the school. More info, pictures, and videos to come!
Making a Friendship Pie
After reading Enemy Pie by Derek Munson, the 2nd graders and I came up with our own recipe for a Friendship Pie. The students came up with some great 'ingredients' that are necessary for friendships to develop. Afterwards we were all really hungry for some real pie! Great job! |
Clans - 1/14/2015
We had our January clans meeting today and it was good to get back to it. We haven't done a clans meeting since November. This year, clans are centered around the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. The clan I am a part of is focused on Intrapersonal Intelligence which is being smart about yourself. Knowing what motivates you or being able to recognize when your emotions are taking over is an important quality to possess. We teach the students different deep breathing techniques as well as have them do some expressive fingerpainting. A good time was had by all. We'll have a new group in February! |
Power Up: Speak Out!
This past Friday I began the Power Up: Speak Out! lessons with the 7th and 8th graders. I really enjoy this program because it teaches students what healthy relationships look like and reinforces that they don't have to deal with unhealthy relationships. Topics such as bullying, loving yourself, and standing up for yourself and others are just some of the great lessons that can be taken from this program. The subject matter can make for some uncomfortable moments, which we experienced a couple of times, but topics such as dating usually do that. I'll add some pictures and more details as we progress through Power Up: Speak Out! |
Red Ribbon Week 2014
This year we did lots of fun activities to celebrate being healthy and saying no to drugs. The picture to the left is our attempt to get all of our students, probably about 70, to form the shape of a ribbon. We did this on Wear Red Day. Special thanks go out to Mrs. Szalay and some of her art students for outlining the ribbon in the lawn. I didn't realize, until after the fact, that we needed a smaller outline but it still turned out well.
