What a fantastic find this was. During a workshop where I was learning about the Power Up: Speak Out program, I was introduced to the book One, by Kathryn Otoshi. This book is a portion of a lesson in Power Up: Speak Out, which is a Violence Prevention/Healthy Relationship program for middle school students. One is such a wonderfully written book with clear messages about loving yourself, standing up for yourself and others, and the difference that one person can make. This book is so good that I read it to all levels, K-8. The impending conversation is different as you might expect, but the students really enjoy the book and the simplicity of the message. The artwork also helps the students see the shift in power from the bully to the group trying to stop the bullying behavior. There are a couple of other books by Kathryn Otoshi which I plan on previewing soon. Till next time, hang loose my friends!
